Cool and fun summer activities in Guangzhou

For those looking for a refreshing summer holiday, the following activities should be on your bucket list.

Outdoor vertical wind tunnel

If you are craving for cool wind in scorching summer days, try simulating skydiving and experience the sensation of flying in vertical wind tunnels in Guangzhou. A shop in the city's Baiyun district offers the country's first outdoor wind tunnel to the public.

People over the age of three and weighing less than 117.5 kilograms are eligible to try the sport. The initial experience lasts about 30 minutes, and the actual flying time is about three minutes.

Surfing

A surfing club in Haizhu district attracts many youngsters and family visitors during the summer holidays. The club offers indoor surfing lessons, allowing people to experience the charm of surfing in the city center. People can ride waves on a surf simulator and enjoy the water without worrying about bad weather such as typhoon and heavy rain.

In addition, the club sets up an outdoor surf simulator in August for people to have more surfing experience.

Curling

Curling is often described as "chess on ice", requiring patience, cold calculation and a beady eye. A curling field opened earlier this year at the Guangzhou Sports Stadium in Baiyun district provides a perfect place for citizens aged seven to 60 to try the sport. It is the first curling rink in southern China to be equipped with a real ice surface and international standard lanes.

Indoor skiing

An indoor ski simulator in Baiyun district allows people with no snow experience to practise basic skills before trying out the real slopes. The machine simulates an endless descent down the mountain and is available in several levels of difficulty. The instructor can stop the machine at any time to ensure the skier's safety.
