A "lighting ceremony" of the Lighthouse Library in Guangzhou's Nansha district was held on March 28, marking the official opening of the new library.
Lighthouse Library is located at the intersection of Nansha Bay Shi'ao Fengqing Street and Nansha Yacht Club, one of the most popular tourist attractions in Nansha, with nearly 400,000 visitors each year.
Covering an area of 367 square meters, the library is equipped with service machines that provide intelligent book search, facial recognition borrowing and self-help book return services.
The library houses more than 10,000 books covering literature, economics, history and more. The books in the library provided by the Nansha District Library are included in the Guangzhou Public Library Network, allowing for cross-branch borrowing and returning.
The library mainly consists of two parts — a five-storey book tower and a reading zone.
The book tower is black and yellow in colour, and contains over 7,000 books on the Silk Road, marine science, foreign history and literature. A black spiral staircase leads up to the tower's ceiling, where Van Gogh's Starry Night was painted. It evokes a sense of mystery and historical grandeur.
The reading area is decorated in red and white, with cathedral-style ceilings and five large windows, creating a modern and romantic atmosphere. Inside, a series of 3.5-meter high red iron bookshelves hold over 3,000 books, including literature, art, history, geography and children's picture books.
Besides, the library has a coffee bar where visitors can enjoy a cup of coffee while reading.
